Practice Areas and Expertise

• Preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign-origin patent applications in a wide range of technologies, including: biochemistry, genomics, medical devices, chemistry, telecommunications, semiconductor fabrication, display and optical disk controllers, computer hardware and software, image processing, networking protocols, and pharmaceuticals.

• Developing and implementing domestic and foreign patent application prosecution strategies for both large and small corporate entities.

• Preparing patent clearance, patentability, invalidity, and non-infringement opinions in the biological, chemical, medical and pharmaceutical arts.

• Counseling clients regarding legal matters relating to Intellectual Property including patent portfolio management and filing strategies, freedom to operate issues, patent prosecution, post-issuance procedures (e.g., reissue and reexamination), trade secret law, licensing, and enforcement.

• Providing due diligence services in connection with licensing, mergers and acquisitions.

• Litigation of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret infringement actions on behalf of patentees and accused infringers in the United States District Courts, the Second and Federal Circuits, and the International Trade Commission. Recent cases include defending against patent infringement claims pertaining to chromatography technology, enforcing a medical software patent against a competitor, and defending against Section 337 patent infringement claims pertaining to display and optical controllers.

• Negotiating and drafting patent, trademark and trade secret licensing agreements.
